We are very pleased to be a supporter of the fantastic Look Good Feel Better Foundation. This is a worldwide cancer supporting charity, that focuses on helping to restore and enhance the appearance of cancer patients both during and after treatment. It has been running for over 24 years in New Zealand and they have helped over 35,000 New Zealanders.

The Look Good Feel Better foundation conduct workshops through out New Zealand. The Taranaki workshops are held in New Plymouth and Hawera approximately every 7 weeks. These classes include skin care and make-up lessons, tips and techniques to assist with changes that cancer treatment may cause, professional advice on hair loss and above all a 2-3 hour pampering session. Led by volunteers from the cosmetics industry they are light, informal and caring. Each attendee receives a free gift and complimentary kit of cosmetics and skincare chosen for each individual.

We hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day spent with loved ones.

All of us at Et Vous sure did, here is what we got up too xx

Et Vous Mother's Day

Our Online Manager Greer, sat down with the lovely Kate and Marguerite, owners of Et Vous. This is one inspiring mother and daughter duo! We chatted about how they started Et Vous, their must have fashion items, best Mother’s Day gift they have ever received and more.

What made you decide to start a designer boutique in New Plymouth together?

Their original idea was to just do footwear and they attended a shoe fair in Germany in 2005. “It was a show for ordering and at that point we didn’t even have a shop” said Kate. They placed orders for footwear but when they returned to NZ they cancelled those orders, but still had all the contacts. At the time Kate was working at a clothing store in town that was about to close. They brought the store and decided to do the footwear, clothing and also French furniture and lighting at their concept store on Powerham Street. Since it was a large space, they complimented this with an in store cafe as well. “We never set out to have a clothing store, it was an evolvement of an idea and an opportunity” says Kate. Marguerite, an extremely supportive mother says “Kate has a real flare for this and I could see that.” She supported Kate from the get go and Et Vous was born.

How has Et Vous changed over the years?

They started off with the four aspects; clothing, footwear, furniture/lighting and a cafe. Over time Et Vous evolved and fazed out the Furniture aspect which felt like “part of the shop aesthetic”, they also reconsidered the cafe as it wasn’t financially viable and eventually fazed out the lighting and homewares as well. The clothing and footwear was going really well and they kept the coffee machine and made coffees for customers while they were shopping. The opportunity arose to be part of the White Hart Redevelopment and they relocated to be part of the refreshed and busy area of town. Because there was a few years left on the lease they established the fabulous restaurant Social Kitchen in its place and made the move to Devon Street. This transition gave them the chance to give the Et Vous brand a refresh and they decided to stock more European brands. “Travelling overseas to pick from exclusive ranges gives us a point of difference” said Kate.

Where do you see Et Vous in 5 years time?

They don’t see themselves relocating the store again in the near future but they will continue to do buying trips to source brands from outside of New Zealand. They also aren’t interested in opening another physical store in another part of New Zealand, Et Vous’ area of growth will be through “the online presence as much a part of selling our products as the physical store” says Kate.

What is one fashion item or accessory you can’t like without?

Kate and Marguerite both agree a good handbag is a must! Their fashion changes but a good handbag is essential, it is as much a fashion statement as anything else. Marguerite also likes to have quality glasses, wearing glasses everyday she is always on the lookout for new styles.

What is the best gift you have ever received for Mother’s Day?

Kate says her best Mother’s Day “is yet to come” as she has heard there is something in the pipelines this year. Marguerite said “every Mother’s Day has been so nice, with beautifully wrapped and thoughtful presents”. She also said Kate cooks the most fabulous meals for them all, with a nicely set table, candles and flowers it is “just wonderful”.

What is top of your Mother’s Day “wish list” this year?

Both ladies agree that time with family is what they look forward too the most and for everyone to be “well and happy”.

From et vous with love xx

Et Vous is on the Move!

Late 2014 saw us move from our premise of 8 years in Powderham Street to our temporary ‘pop-up’ shop in Devon Street. Whilst leaving our beautiful space was sad for many of our clients, for us, it was the start of an exciting new chapter in the life of et vous which we have been eagerly looking forward to.

Planning is well underway for our ultimate relocation into what was formally the Public Bar and Bottle Store in the White Hart Hotel. We have the Devon Street frontage, between Snug Lounge and Momo Sushi, a fabulous space with wonderful original features and an underground ‘bunker’ feel. Our opening is being worked to coincide with the beginning of the Spring season in August and we have very exciting product on its way from our whirlwind trip to Paris earlier this year.

As always our aim and undertaking is to provide our clients with exclusive and special merchandise, outstanding customer service and to offer an experience and environment that is welcoming and engaging. I am confident that our new space, our continuous consciencious search for all things amazing and the passion of the et vous team will provide this over and over again.

We look forward to keeping you updated on progress and finally welcoming you into our new home!
